Leyte town mayor gets COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Mayor Lovell Ann Yu of Alang-alang town in Leyte has tested positive for COVID-19.

Yu said she went on isolation on June 2 after she was identified as among the secondary contacts of a patient.

She said she experienced fever, cough and fatigue as well as loss of sense of smell and taste on June 4.  The result of her  swab test was released on June 8.

Yu said she was advised by her doctor to seek hospital admission after her symptoms worsened this week.

“I have been experiencing persistent cough... True enough, my X-ray results showed that I developed pneumonia,” Yu said.

Town police chief Maj. Arturo Salvacion is also in isolation after he contracted the virus.

Alang-alang recorded 60 active cases as of yesterday.
