DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Eight Filipino fishermen who have been detained in North Sulawesi, Indonesia for poaching were repatriated over the weekend.

The eight were the last batch of Filipinos caught fishing in the waters of Indonesia.

They arrived at the Davao International Airport on a Garuda Airlines flight from Manado City.

Officials of the Department of Social Welfare and Development met the fishermen at the airport.

The eight were brought to the DSWD regional office in Northern Mindanao for processing before they were taken home to General Santos.

Fishermen from General Santos, where major fishing companies are based, venture as far as Indonesia, Palau and Papua New Guinea to fish.
