Special permit OK’d for LRT-2 bus program

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued special permits for 20 buses covering two major routes of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2).
Acting LTFRB Chairman Greg Pua Jr. said the special permit was in response to the Department of Transportation initiative to ensure ample supply of public transportation amid the increasing number of LRT-2 passengers.
The LRT Line 2 runs from Antipolo City to Recto Avenue in Manila. It is the fastest mode of transportation for students and workers moving to and from Rizal province.
The buses will be another option for train passengers, especially at times of long queues and crowded passengers at LRT-2 stations.
Pua said the operation of the buses would lessen transportation expenses as passengers would no longer ride other modes of transport such as tricycles to reach their destination since the buses would pass by the normal destinations like schools and workplaces.
