The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Some of our favorite things that came out of the ‘80s are sci-fi thrillers and the whole array of beauty trends. The former has had a recent resurgence, and the latter, tbh, is still very much alive now, and every fashion season — I mean, just look at your tita, and then look at her grad photo, count the number of fluffed up bangs, and it will still match today, I tell you. Put the two together and what do you get? Us fangirling over the women of Netflix series Stranger Things

Besides the many references to the decade’s pop culture (aliens, telekinetic children, and the actual Winona Ryder), we saw how the show aligned the character’s looks with people from that time. (And, no coincidence, we aligned these to current movements in beauty, so you, too can be an ST gal.)  I mean, Nancy and her thick-lashed doe eyes? I’m pretty sure she hoards Great Lash, and in waterproof, because she’s a perfectionist like that. If you thicken your bottom layer like she does, it’ll still be on trend today.

On the other hand, Joyce is the kind of lady who doesn’t have time to bother with her makeup, and refuses to fall for the trend called green cake foundation. So her skin won’t be matte, unlike lipstick and skin and beauty in general was then, but it’ll be great skin because she doesn’t put anything on it. If today’s highlighter existed then, she’d sneak a little on but you wouldn’t be able to tell. If you want to #BeLikeBarb, who seems to be the no-fuss chick who at the same time thinks looking cute is still of importance, line up your colored eyeshadow and wear that single wash of pastel or electric everyday under your glasses with pride. As for Eleven, we gave her some glitter, which has also become socially acceptable to wear recently, because, well, she’s magical.
