Young Star

Tali shines

FROM COFFEE TO COCKTAILS - Celine Lopez -
I had to ask her, "Is your name really Tali Shine?’’

She laughed and said she did get that a lot. I guess it must be in the stars with a name like that to parlay it into lip glosses. Indeed, Tali’s makeup line is quickly becoming a hit.

Only a year old, Tali Cosmetics has been snapped up by everyone in the know, including Mischa Barton and Paris Hilton. The latter actually involves a funny anecdote that Tali shares: while in L.A. Tali whipped out her cosmetic kit at Fred Segal and Paris Hilton, in true brat form, demanded to know where she got it. She gave her the Hollywood compact and the rest is history.

Tali’s cosmetics is a reflection of her many travels.

Only 24, Tali has written the successful Glam Girls Guide books. She fashioned her jet-setting lifestyle to fit her cosmetics. "I wanted something to capture those beautiful places," she says. "Or maybe something to make you feel like you’re on vacation even if you’re just at home."

True enough, her highly addictive makeup palettes, gloriously designed by Tali and illustrator Jason Brooks of Hed Kandi fame, evoke the vibe of each destination they represent. Morocco is resplendent in deep exotic jewel tones and is my personal favorite. This hot Australian brand is now exclusively available at Rustan’s Essenses.

Hollywood is filled with sparkly pink and gunmetal.

Very starlet-worthy indeed! If in the ’50s it was all about red lips, today it’s all about pink in Hollywood. Bahamas is your ultimate beach buddy. A palette of baby blues, nudes, golds and browns, it’s perfect for those easy city nights or steaming beach parties.

Her glosses say a lot about her: they come in a tube with an ergonomic brush that evenly distributes candy-colored gloss. What makes this special is that it comes with a stiletto charm, reminiscent to the one Tali wears all the time, that can be used as a pendant as well.

Her body line is as delicious as a piña colada in the Maldives. Her sugar scrubs, Tahiti and Capri, fulfill tropical fantasies at any given time. Everyone knows that one must scrub to get that golden tan, whether real or fake! Her hand cream in the same fragrances are also travel friendly. You can tote them in your handbag for a fun fix when the urban jungle gets to you!

Tali also has body washes and lotions as well.

"I designed all these products for the girl on the go," she enthuses. "They are all experiential products.

"Also I made sure that the packaging was something to admire. I love how the body wash and lotion can dress up any bathroom. The palettes are meant to really be for the girlfriends. It’s a lot of fun to whip up something unexpected from your purse."

Truly, Tali is the ultimate girls’ girl, with years of traveling, shopping, writing and partying – her products are ready to jet-set their way into your purses.

Tali’s prom tips:

1. Focus on eyes or lips. If you have dramatic eyes then opt for soft-colored lips. If you want deep red lips, opt for softer eye makeup.

2. Prom is an event where you can really up the glamour stakes. Think movie star makeup and false eyelashes.

3. Make sure you still look like yourself – you don’t want to look back at your photos and wonder who the girl is.

4. Carry a compact and blotting powder in your evening bag; it’s a long night and you will want to be able to do easy touch-ups.

5. Rather than apply perfume, apply perfumed body lotion before you get dressed and make sure it dries on the skin. That way your skin will feel soft and lovely and you will smell delicious all night.
