Koji Arsua - The Philippine Star

Make an ‘exception’

MANILA, Philippines - With the success of Singapore’s Laneway Festival and local music gatherings like the Malasimbo Festival and last week’s Tagaytay Electronica Festival, today, the Exception Music Festival will show Manileños how it’s done.

The festival will be held on three stages — the live stage, Freedom Music, and Ministry of Sound. The live stage will have performances by: Pedicab, Imago, 6cyclemind, Sandwich, Parokya Ni Edgar, Techy Romantics, and Elmer Dado + Gruppo Tribale. Freedom Music will hold: Marie Garcia, John Paul Lee, Martin Pulgar, Andy Moor, Mat Zo, James Zabiela, BT, W&W and Tydi. On the Ministry of Sound Stage, Karl Ty, Manolet Santos, Marc Naval, Jack Stone, Brian Cua, Pav Parotte, Alinep, Chris Raeuber, Stuart Ojelay, Aimee Jay and EDX will be rocking the night. The lineup is a mix of local bands and internationally recognized DJs, so there’s a stage for every preference.

Shows start at 4 p.m., and tickets are available at the entrance for P2,625. Party will be at 25th Street, corner 9th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City.

Play with Heima and IdKids

Home and lifestyle store Heima and creative studio IdKids are teaming up to “explore associations between the creative process and inanimate objects.” On Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Heima store at the LRI Design Plaza in Makati, the team will launch Tabletop Solutions, a line of functional art pieces that disguise their utility behind childish veils. Nightlights and painted wooden blocks, for example, are treated as tools to simulate an immediate change in scenery. Beer and chips will be served. Eyedress performs at 7 p.m.

Get mind-f*cked by Roberto Chabet

When the granddaddy of Filipino conceptual art decides to hold an exhibit, you know you have to go. Roberto Chabet is the founding museum director of the CCP and originator of the Thirteen Artists Award. In Towards One Thousand and One Isthmuses, Chabet comes up with an intellectual exhibit artfully composed of ropes and mirrors, depicting the “thin connecting thread” between horizons to come at a “meeting point.” It may take a lot of thinking to understand what Chabet is trying to say, but isn’t that the point of art? The exhibit is at mo_space, mos_design building, Bonifacio High Street, beginning today.

Relive ‘Ang Nawawala’

Ang Nawawala was the runaway hit of this year’s Cinemalaya, with its soundtrack as its crowning glory. A vinyl record became available for pre-order, but the digital copies of the soundtrack, remixed and remastered, will now be available on its launch on Nov. 28 at Borough in Podium. The event doubles as director Marie Jamora’s birthday bash, and she promises to buy booze for those who buy the album during the event. A special performance from the soundtrack’s musicians will be held: Sandwich, Itchyworms, Ebe Dancel, Pedicab, Outerhope, Innerdespair, Ang Bandang Shirley, Hannah+Gabi, Flying Ipis, The Strangeness, Ciudad, Kagawasan, Frances Feranil, Plant A Tree, Jastafraz’s Chechebureche, Tarsius, Ely Buendia+Raimund Marasigan, and the APO Hiking Society. Party starts at 9:30.

Stare at Jennifer Lopez’s tush

Jennifer Lopez will be performing at the MOA Arena on Monday, Nov. 26. The gig is part of her Dance Again World Tour, which has received rave reviews, with critics lauding her gorgeous body and high-impact dance moves and choreography. For 2012, her concert is the most expensive ever held in Manila, with P26,000 for front row seats. She may be from the block, but her love sure don’t come cheap. Show starts at 8 p.m.
