Why dog owners should register with PCCI

-

MANILA, Philippines - Any owner wants the best for his dog and registering them might just do the trick.

Many dog owners are passive about having their pets registered. This is especially the case when they do not have the intention of selling their dogs.

But more than the commercial value of a registration certificate from PCCI (Philippine Canine Club, Inc.), the country’s pioneer and most widely recognized local dog registration body, dog owners must realize that registering their dogs opens up a world of privileges both to the pet and the owner.

Upon registration, PCCI will give you a registration certificate which works like a birth certificate. It serves as a record of your dog’s identity, providing recognition and official documentation of your dog’s place in breed history. The name that appears on your dog’s registration certificate was chosen by you or your dog’s breeder and is unique. No other registered dog can have the same name.

Together with your PCCI registration certificate is your dog’s pedigree that traces its parentage back four generations. You may also go to PCCI and bring along these documents, properly endorsed by the seller, to transfer the dog to your name as your proof of ownership.

“It is the job of PCCI as the country’s premiere dog registration body to ensure the quality of purebred in the country. Registering your litter with PCCI ensures the preservation of your pets’ pedigree,” explains PCCI president Augusto Benedicto Santos III.

Purebred means that the sire (father) and dam (mother) of a dog are members of a recognized breed. The PCCI documents indicate that the father and mother of the dog are registered and that their father and mother were likewise registered. Therefore, dogs whose sire and/or dam are not purebred are ineligible for registration.

The club can also assist prospective owners in locating breeders who may have pups but cannot guarantee either the health or quality of the dogs in its registry. It is the sole responsibility of the prospective owner to visit the seller and determine if the pup meets his expectations. Take note, however, that although the club keeps records of the parentage of thousands of dogs registered annually, PCCI is not directly involved in the sale of dogs.

PCCI-registered dogs also gain automatic memberships with the world canine organizations Federacion Cynologique Internationale (FCI) and its 86-member organizations, the Asia Kennel Union where PCCI is also a full member of, and the American Kennel Club, Canadian Kennel Club and the Kennel Club of UK where PCCI has reciprocal agreements.

Being a member of PCCI also allows the owner and its dog to participate in shows organized by the club as well as its affiliate organizations.

“PCCI is the most internationally recognized Philippine canine body. As such, this gives our members and their dogs have greater opportunities to be recognized abroad, compete, and be a world champion,” says Santos.

With the registration also comes a regular copy of PCCI’s quarterly publication that contains news about the club and its affiliate canine organizations as well as useful tips to the members.

“Registering with PCCI makes owning a dog a truly memorable and benefiting experience,” adds Santos.

You can do great things with your dog. And making them a member of PCCI is the best way to start it off.
