SM gives tips on wearable print mixing

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -Neon shoes, graphic and asymmetric silhouettes, and bright prints are here to make the style outlook as bright as ever.  The world’s fashion runways reflect this passion for prints: floral patterns like dandelions and daisies continue to bloom at Valentino and Bottega Veneta, dots dominate the Reem Acra and Jason Wu collections in botchy and classic expressions, respectively  while stripes stay inside the lines of Dolce and Gabbana, Moschino and Marc Jacobs.

At the SM Girls Teens Wear department, prints are modern, edgy, sophisticated yet fun as classic florals, polka dots, stripes, and tribal patterns merge with modern geometrics and digital prints.

With all these amazing patterns, print mixing is now on-trend.  While this is one of the more difficult trends to pull off, mixed prints can look wildly high fashion and breathe new life into your look.

Here are some tips on how to make print mixing wearable, bold, but not flashy.

Stay in the same color family. Wear mixed prints of the same color family.  This will help you coordinate them better and keep the look bold yet not over-the-top.  Start with neutral colors and when you are more confident with mixing prints, try brighter colors

Scale is very important when mixing prints. These should be of the same scale or size to look good together.  Start with simpler prints like stripes and polka dots, and then go for bolder and more complex prints.

Throw in a solid color into the outfit when mixing prints. It can be a printed top and a blazer or vice versa, printed pants and a printed top with a solid blazer.  The options are limitless.

When mixing intricate prints, it helps to keep one of the prints in a neutral hue, and the other in bright.

Accessories matter. A printed shoe worn with a matching pair of tights is quirky and fun!  Ready to wear pieces in mixed prints can also give you that look — just pick it off the rack and accessorize.

Have fun mixing prints at the Girls Teens Wear section of the SM Store.
