Talking fashion with The Lylas

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -Ever wondered what’s inside the closet of a celebrity? The brunette beauties — collectively known as The Lylas — take fans inside their closets and share a few of their personal must-haves as well as some cool style tips to stay fabulous and fierce.

Composed of Jaime Kailani, Tahiti, Tiara and Presley, the girls are recognized for their music as well as for their interesting taste in fashion. Robinsons Department Store  recently tapped them to be its style ambassadors, headlining  its different private label brands catering to women of varying tastes in fashion.

Despite being surrounded by designer labels, The Lylas chose to represent RDS in because of the brand’s practical but sophisticated selection that goes well with their diverse lifestyles and personalities.

When it comes to clothes and dressing up for an occasion, the four women are different as day and night. Presley, the quintessential urban chic, is a huge fan of mixing and matching trends. “Pulling from various styles and trends allows me to create my own unique look from what’s currently hot. I’m into muscle tees at the moment; I like to dress up or down a plain V-neck,” says Presley.

Never one to try boho or goth, Presley counts on a good pair of heels to give her an instant confidence boost. “For me, a pair of heels plus bold lipstick are enough to take a woman from the office to a cocktail party. But one important thing that women should know about being stylish is, whatever they put on, they must own it!”

Whereas Presley is passionate about heels, Tiara has a penchant for good old sneakers. “I can’t live without my Converse sneakers!” she exclaims. Tiara works her inner rocker chic with black outfits; a color she says completes her “signature look.” “I love wearing black because it’s so versatile. Some of my favourite black items inside my closet are my little black dress, black underwear, black jeans, black basic shirt and black leather anything,” reveals Tiara, who holds and remembers her mother as a fashion inspiration. “She was always daring yet sophisticated and always fierce.”

Tiara’s fashion must-have for the rainy season? An oversize over-the-shoulder sweater to stay warm and cozy. She goes on to say: “It’s not expensive to be stylish. Rock what you have and mix things up! Confidence makes the style, not the clothes, and that doesn’t cost a thing.”

Tahiti, meanwhile, is the sexy siren of the bunch and is not afraid to show some skin. This reflects in her go-to outfits that include cropped tops, bikini tops, knitted sweaters, loose tanks and cut-off shirts.

She believes that a stylish woman knows how to “recycle.” “Think vintage. Shop smart and reuse what you got in 100 different ways,” Tahiti says matter-of-factly.

Among the four sisters, Jaime Kailani prefers to tone it down filling her closet with basic pieces like a pair of jeans and black/white tank tops. But while she keeps her style neutral most of the time, she makes sure to add a bit of oomph to her outfit with a pop of color.

“I’m usually more risqué with accessories, shoes and lipstick,” Jaime Kailani shares. A beautiful necklace and earrings, she notes, can dress up any outfit. “Of course, always carry a lipstick that pops and wear a classic pair of heels.” One thing she never leaves home without is her gold wrap ring that her mother handmade for her. “It’s my favourite piece of accessory. Apart from it, I also love natural stone accessories mixed with gold. They define my look,” says Jaime Kailani.

Like The Lylas’ unique personalities and individual tastes in fashion, the Women’s Wear department of Robinsons Department Store has everything for every style. Customers can expect to see a rich assortment of dresses, shoes, bags and accessories perfect for a mix of styles that will make them feel like the next superstar.”
