Hassle-free Christmas shopping

PERSONAL CHOICE - Frannie Jacinto - The Philippine Star

Cura V is a jewel of a store in the Rockwell Power Plant Mall headed by five lovely designers –– Trish Calma, Emi Jorge, Kai Lim, Camille Ongpauco and Nicole Whisenhunt. These young ladies have proved their mettle with beautifully made jewelry, fashion and home accessories that are in demand. With their partnership turning a year old, they held a one-day exhibit-sale that showed their latest artisan work and granted discounts to their valued clients at the Cav in The Fort.

It was a feast for the eyes with so many sparkling pieces that I just could not decide which one was more eye-catching than the other: Natalya Lagdameo’s Filipino antique jewelry, Janina Dizon’s colorful Stingray jewelry and bags, FahLux by Macky Fah & Celine Lopez with stylish everyday jewelry, Erica Concepcion-Reyes’ modernized vintage pieces, Lally Dizon’s crocodile clutch bags in a rainbow of colors, Mawi’s estate-inspired jewelry executed with a modern look, Emi Jorge’s sculptured minaudieres, Nicole Whisenhunt’s woven and embroidered jewelry and Dennis Lustico’s classic daytime and evening bags.

Private sale

Mia Borromeo hosted a private trunk sale and tea party where friends pleasantly passed the weekend afternoon shopping not only for themselves but also for those on their holiday gift lists. The capsule collection contained well-edited pieces of stunning jewelry and accessories by talented Joyce Makitalo, and chic, stylish dresses by Techie Hagedorn’s Alegre.

This certainly was my most relaxing way to shop as it was in the confines of a beautiful Forbes Park home, away from the hustle and bustle of the busy commercial centers.

Outstanding ‘Rama Hari’

Rama Hari was the hit pop ballet musical of the 1980s and was Philippine Ballet Theater’s 2012 holiday presentation that turned all of us into adoring fans once again. The outstanding cast of talented performers led by Christian Bautista, Karylle, Robert Seña, JM Cordero and Carissa Adea gave the audience reason to award them with numerous curtain calls and thunderous applause.

The gala night at the Cultural Center of the Philippines was filled with an adoring audience that made everyone proud knowing that this was based on the Indian epic, The Ramayana, yet was refashioned into a Philippine ballet musical that has stood the test of time. It was originally performed in the Eighties with choreography by Alice Reyes, musical composition by Ryan Cayabyab, and in collaboration with three National Artists, no less –– Bienvenido Lumbera, Salvador Bernal and  Rolando Tinio.

I bumped into several friends who were all proudly agog over the staging of the love story of Rama and Sita that had elements of drama, comedy and unlimited talent from the Philippine cast.
