Cool winter wear to keep you warm

STYLE S.O.S. - Lucy Torres-Gomez, Rissa M. Samson, Tingting Cojuangco -

Dear Rissa,

Our family will be going out of the country for the Christmas holidays. The weather will be cold. What’s the best material to keep me warm and where should I shop?

Sheena DLR

When it comes to winter wear, wool and down will keep you the warmest. You didn’t say where exactly you are going and how cold it will be, but make sure to check the label of the apparel you are buying. For travels to cold countries, I always go for coats with long length and high wool content. Down is actually much warmer than wool, but quite bulky. Sweaters are a great alternative because they allow you to dress in layers — the best way to keep your body warm. United Colors of Benetton has a reliable yet versatile collection of knits in sweaters, vests, and cardigans. Some of my warmest wool dresses and tops are from Benetton, which I bought almost 10 years ago! They’ve been a staple in all my trips with cold weather.

Check out Zara and Forever 21, too, for coats. SM’s Surplus Shop also boasts winter wear at the most awesome prices. And if you need serious winter apparel, the best place to head to is Columbia.

Zap those zits

Dear Lucy,

I have acne marks. Will they ever go away?

Joyce

Fair skin will usually end up with red marks and darker skin will get brown spots. I suggest an exfoliating treatment with salicylic or glycolic acid. Ask your dermatologist for one that would be best for you. If you have deep scars, maybe you should consider a radio frequency treatment. It is expensive, but it will rebuild dermal tissue in lesser down time.

‘Help! I’m Masculado!’

Dear Ms. Tingting,

My problem is I have big arms, they’re like masculine arms. Sometimes, they say I’m maskulado. Could you tell me what to do with my masculine arms?

Karen

Go to Marie France Bodyline International for an analysis of your personal shaping needs. Call or visit Customer Service at 894-2639.

Always get advice from an experienced and qualified instructor or, ideally, a personal trainer if you can afford it. That way, you won’t injure yourself and you’ll get better results.

I also recommend you do a full-body weight training routine rather than just focusing on the arms.

All the best with your goals!

Tingting
