10 years of German-Philippine cooperation under the International Climate Initiative
MANILA, Philippines — Last May 30, German Ambassador Dr. Gordon Kricke welcomed numerous “friends of IKI” at his residence to celebrate Philippine-German cooperation in the fight against climate change and for the conservation of biodiversity. Along with guests from government agencies, NGOs and German experts, the intimate but cheerful IKI anniversary reception brought together partners engaged in climate action with very diverse backgrounds – all were united through their involvement in Philippine-German joint efforts.
GIZ Philippines’ principal adviser and cluster coordinator for climate change Dr. Bjorn Surborg, principal adviser for forest & climate protection Panay Phase II Dr. Klaus Schmitt and country director Irina Scheffmann, Dr. Ernesto Pernia, German Ambassador Dr. Gordon Kricke and German Embassy deputy chief of mission Dr. Roland Shcissau
The International Climate Initiative (IKI) is a program of the German government established in 2008 with the Philippines as one of IKI’s focus countries in Southeast Asia. Since then the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) has supported projects in the Philippines.
