Medge Olivares at Whitespace

Medge Olivares explored energy and a play of light in “Burst,” the country’s first Fractal Art installation, which was held recently at White Space, Chino Roces Ave. Ext., Makati City.

Fractal Art is a subclass of two-dimensional visual art, and is in many respects similar to photography.

For the show, Olivares combined forces with Joey Ayala who performed a live set blending techno and indigenous timbres — capturing the essence of fractal art as modern and new, yet familiar.

Luis Lorenzana at Silverlens

Luis Lorenzana digs up old drawings and elevates these using powerful traditional methods in “Luis Lorenzana: The League of Luminous Lunatics,” which opens on Aug. 15 at Silverlens, YMC Bldg., 2320 Don Chino Roces Ave. Ext., Makati City.

The result is a curious fusion of the lunatic and the noble that casts both components in a new light. The series puts on bold display a stark contrast between the dignity of old world portraiture and the whimsical distortion of its subjects that eventually softens and disappears.
