The perfect reveal

MANILA, Philippines — The condition of your skin reveals much about you.

Shimmian Manila Surgicenter, known for being the Philippines’ first advanced Rhinoplasty center, is also complemented by its treatments and non-surgical procedures on enhancing the skin’s properties.

One of the most promising actors of his generation, JC de Vera takes his regular visits to the clinic to help him maintain his physique and care for his good looks.

The face

Dr. Anna Marie Montesa, the beauty behind the successful clinic, personally gives pieces of advice to the actor to try the Mosaic Fractional Laser Treatment, a guaranteed acne-scar removing procedure. The treatment also minimizes pores, eliminates stretch marks and wrinkles. “It’s a kind of laser that penetrates and microscopically wound your skin. We use  laser so the wound will not visibly produce blood. But if you look at the skin through a microscope, you will see the wounds. (These wounds allow) us to stimulate your skin and produce new cells, which is the only way for acne scars, fine lines and pores to be normal again without surgery,” Montesa explains.

She adds that the treatment delivers simultaneous  microscopic laser beams to the skin. The clinic increases the number of sessions of this treatment instead of putting the machine to a high setting as too much laser beam can still burn the skin. This treatment can easily control the depth of penetration on the skin compared to treatments that uses needles.

The Mosaic Fractional Laser Treatment can be done once a month. The process takes about an hour under the laser, which is followed by stem cell application for repair and regeneration.

“What’s good about the treatment is it has minimal downtime. You’ll experience one or two days of flaking then you can go back to your usual activities. But of course, one should limit sun exposure and always apply sunblock before heading out,” Montesa reminds.

After two weeks, the patient will have to return to do the Facial Glycopeel, recommended for oily skin, acne-prone skin and big pores. The patient may also opt to do the Brightening Power Peel, which is best for treating dry skin and removing acne-scars.

For JC, he does the Mosaic Fractional Laser once in three months. “I need it for work as my skin tires out and gets dehydrated due to long hours of work. It doesn’t help also when I always have makeup on, which accumulates easily on my skin,” he says. “After treatment, the downtime is critical as I need to limit my sun exposure. Even the studio lights affect the healing process,” JC adds.

The body

JC also favors Shimmian’s ReFirme Body Tite and Lipomelt Body Contouring that does a great deal in improving the looks of his already impressive physique.

“First, Lipomelt Body Contouring is a non-surgical way of slimming. It sends ultrasonic waves by sweeping motions in a specific area of the body targeting fats adipose tissue, which tends the fats to produce microbubbles then eventually becomes melted fats. The elimination will be through the lymphatic system using a slimming massage,” Montesa explains. After this phase, it is recommended one goes through the ReFirme Body Tite to tighten the skin wherein radio-frequency waves are used to heat collagen fibers causing an immediate compression of the skin.

It takes an hour to finish both treatments. If given less time to do so, one can do the Lipomelt Body Contouring first then follow it up ReFirme next after a day or two. Moreover, it’s safe to do it every week. “Again, both of which can be achieved only through proper diet and exercise,” Montesa adds as to why the clinic strongly suggests its clients to be advised by a dietician (which they can also provide), especially if one is overweight. The change in lifestyle is needed to maintain the lost weight. That promotes a healthier benefit for the body.

An alternative to it are Shimmian’s Comprehensive Slimming programs that help increase one’s metabolism. “To increase ones metabolism, we do injections. When we reach between the ages of 35 and 40, the metabolism slows down. So, we really have to coach the patient on how to improve his or her lifestyle. The program is anti-aging. It is good for the heart as it decreases cholesterol levels of patients with increased cholesterol,” Montesa explains.

Other programs include the use of machines and diet coaching. A full-on consultation is adhered to achieve best results.
