Polo at its finest

“Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby, to be picked up and laid down like a game of Solitaire. It is a grand passion.†– Ralph Waldo Emerson
The “Sport of Kings†continues to draw attention from Filipino fans because of aficionados like GlobalPort owner and celebrated sportsman Mikee Romero, who continues to sponsor polo tournaments in the country. Just recently, the distinguished Alabang Country Club was the chosen venue of the two-day Romero Polo Festival, the international tournament that featured top professional polo players from the US, Thailand, Argentina, England, Mexico and the Philippines.
The lovely organizing committee chair Sheila Romero and topnotch Hollywood film producer and Alabang Country Club president Jun Juban warmly welcomed fans and enthusiasts of the sport from the diplomatic, government, sports, business and entertainment circles. Seen at the scene were Argentinian Ambassador Joaquin Daniel Otero, Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia, Fila Philippines power couple Butch and Cris Albert among others who gathered to witness the exciting matches.
An enchanting vineyard-themed party organized by Sheila served both as the polo festival’s culminating event and Mikee’s birthday celebration.
Bravo to Mikee, Sheila and Jun for this wonderful sporting event!
The colors of friendship
It was another fun-filled evening at the tastefully decorated home of gracious couple Jojo and Henry Zabarte. It was mesmerizing to witness the warmth of ruby red, black onyx, turquoise blue, amethyst purple and pink quartz fill the room, surpassed only by the radiance of the couple’s beautiful guests.
Credit Len Olbes for the idea of having the ladies come in jewel tones to welcome the onset of summer. Investment banker Bob Miller was the sole gentleman-celebrator among the roses, Len Olbes, fashion designer Lulu Tan Gan and Lilibeth Campos.
The party hostesses led by Suzette Lopez, Linda Ley, Mayenne Carmona and Jojo Zabarte claimed they cooked all day to dish up the delicious fare served at dinnertime. Such gorgeous chefs! The gentlemen present even joked that they could not possibly afford to hire them!
It was an intimate gathering of close friends who always remember to celebrate each other’s milestones.
Here’s to a long-lasting friendship.
