MULTIPLE CHOICE - Luis Espiritu Jr. -
Fashion of the ’60s makes a comeback as MOD re-invented, alluring the next generation of fashion followers.

MOD... remembered as an era in fashion history in the ’60s when London thrived as the capital of trends, style and discoveries. It was a time when the bold, brave and young filled famous Carnaby street and Kings Row in England. Supermodel Leslie Hornsby popularly known as Twiggy, Iconic Edie Sedgwick, renowned hairstylist Vidal Sassoon, global designers Andre Courreges, Rudi Gernreich, Pierre Cardin, Mary Quant, and the legends of fashion photography like Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin and Scavullo were the most memorable names that described the world of MOD. As the fashion revolution evolved, the statement at that time no longer dictated economic status, neither did it define social class but more of the existing street culture that celebrated one’s uniqueness or independence. Bold colors, geometric patterns and pop art played a big role as they strongly influenced the development of trends.

Today, the Fall-Winter 2005 collections reminisce trends of seasons past. One of the biggest trends to hit in the months to come is the return of MOD. Fashion frontier’s Balenciaga, Chanel, Stella McCartney, Christian Dior, Proenza Schouler, Imitation of Christ, Dolce & Gabbana takes the fashion spotlight as they kick of the season to pay homage to all that’s MOD. Locally, the Young Designers Guild (YDG) and Chocolate Clothing Company have teamed up to create an innovative take on the look of the moment. Bold, practical and functional, each piece is versatile and suits everyday mix-matching. The new MOD is modern without a hint of retro.
