Be on the Heat List!

- Patrick Ty And Corinne Alegre -
Summer rides the big wave as it celebrates fashion land’s new mood – totally feminine, upbeat and electroclashing. Acid brights, exuberant prints and bashful blacks – this season’s swimwear is unapologetically flirtatious. However chic, a right fitting swimsuit is as important as its style factor. Body types are as varied as swimwear styles.

Here are some tips on finding the perfect fit for every body type:

• Know your body type. Assess the areas that you feel comfortable showing off or those you want to cover up.

• Let the activity dictate the suit. There are some swimsuits meant just for posing by the pool, others intended for serious athletics and many in between.

• Consider the amount of support you need. For example, triangle tops are for firm breasts only; otherwise, these can have a flattening effect. On the other hand, under wire tops are great because they offer extra support without sacrificing style.

• It is good to mix separates. Tops and bottoms are often sold individually so you can get the right fit. Bear in mind that in combining swimwear, picking up a single color or the general personality of the top is of utmost importance.

• What to wear for day and night. Beach brights burst onto the scene in clashing colors and an unexpected mix of looks commanding every attention. For day, keep it vibrant. Add more show stopping hues with a playful blend of accessories such as bangles, hats, shoes and bags. As evidenced in almost all of this Spring’s collections, fashion has gone to candy land.

Turning up the volume at night should not fall short of drama. Pair black with overtones of sorbet shades and be this summer’s seductress.
Slim
If you have this body type, the goal is to add more curves. Choose swimwear with:

• Bright colors to draw more attention to your covered areas.

• Cut-outs to create an illusion of a waist.

• Graphic prints to add width to your top and bottom

• Under-wired tops to enhance the chest area.

• Sparkle in summer nights and create an illusion of added width by pairing an under- wired top with a short skirt with cascading tiers.

Curvy
This body type has very minimal flaws to hide but needs maximum support and balance. If you are curvy, choose:

• String bikinis that expose more skin and have substantial straps and metal rings that offer support from many directions. Avoid boy shorts at all costs. These cut your leg straight across rather than at an upward angle. This type of swimwear makes your hips and butt look bigger. Cute as they are, boy shorts work best on the narrowest figures.

• Swimwear with a medium neckline to keep your breasts in place. An extremely high neckline can make breasts look low.

• Suits with a high-cut leg to make thighs look longer. Remember that a medium-high is actually more lengthening than super-high.

• Sizzle in the moonlight by pairing a heavily-printed top that offers full support with a low-riding skirt in a similar hue. A belt bag further emphasizes a small waist and an equally proportioned bottom.

Pear-Shaped
Pear-shapes are characterized by heavier hips relative to the top. If you have this body type, your goal is to enhance small breasts and minimize hips. Choose:

• Skimpy tops to accentuate your chest area.

• A belted suit to create more waist.

• A string bikini that is tied to fit and is surprisingly flattering.

• A V-bottom that magically minimizes the hip area.

• Cover-ups that hide your bottom. Remember to expose a little skin to solve the problem.

• Chic, sophisticated and slimming, a free flowing black skirt turns bright days into glam nights.
