Poll workers to get extra P1,000 honorarium for 2025 elections
MANILA, Philippines — With the Commission on Elections' request approved, 758,549 poll workers are set to be granted an extra P1,000 honorarium.
This, along with the previously approved P2,000 across-the-board pay hike for teachers and poll workers, brings the total increase to P3,000 each.
In a letter dated May 11, Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia appealed to the DBM to increase the honorarium and make it tax-free for election day workers “who selflessly serve our nation during every electoral exercise.”
Garcia described election day workers as the guardians of democracy, enduring lengthy hours even amid extreme heat, working in remote locations, and sacrificing their time and safety.
“A thousand pesos may not seem much, but for them, it is a tangible recognition of their unmatched dedication. It is a gesture of a grateful nation,” he added.
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) endorsed the Comelec’s request on May 16, increasing the budget for poll workers who served in this year’s midterm elections by P758.459 million — an equivalent of P1,000 each.
This was later approved by the Office of the President.
Members of the Electoral Board will now receive the following rates:
- Chairman - P13,000
- Poll clerk - P12,000
- Third member - P12,000
- Support staff - P9,000
Meanwhile, volunteer staff from the Department of Education (DepEd) will receive the following compensation rates:
- Supervisors - P12,000
- Supervisors’ admin support staff - P9,000
- Supervisors’ tech support staff - P10,000
These rates already reflect the additional P2,000 across-the-board increase, along with Comelec's request for an extra P1,000.
