Barbie Forteza, Khalil Ramos call working with Sharon Cuneta ‘masterclass’ acting
MANILA, Philippines – Barbie Forteza and Khalil Ramos did not hold back in their admiration for their “Megastar” co-star Sharon Cuneta as they viewed working with her as a “masterclass” in acting.
Barbie and Khalil are among the recognizable stars of GMA-7. They were expectedly excited to work with Sharon, whose TV credits mostly traces back to decades of appearing in TV shows on ABS-CBN and films under its film outfit, Star Cinema.
In this age of streaming, stars of rival networks inevitably find themselves working with each other through collaborations with streaming platforms, such as Prime Video.
Barbie and Khalil are undoubtedly lucky to star with Sharon in the family drama “Honor Thy Mother,” now streaming on Prime Video. The drama is a collaboration among the streaming platform, GMA-7 and ABS-CBN’s Dreamscape Entertainment.
“In awe palagi with Mama Sharon kasi super diligent siya sa aming directors. Ang dali for the rest of us. We’re all in the same page. Kung may input man, we make sure it will glue together with everyone’s inputs,” Barbie began telling the crowd, including the press at the series’ pilot episode screening and press conference held in early September in Quezon City.
“I always learn from Mama Sharon. It’s like taking a masterclass everyday, frontrow seat. Always. Tama, Khalil?” Barbie turned to Khalil, who was seated a few seats away from her.
The actor agreed, adding his own superlatives for the seasoned star.
Khalil, like Barbie, was “super kilig,” but at the same time, was nervous to act with Sharon.
He plays the young secretary of Sharon’s Diana Aragon, the heiress of a big corporation who is perceived to be cold and intimidating.
Barbie, meanwhile, is an aspiring actress who has no qualms doing work as an extra on the set. Though she and Diana might come from seemingly different worlds, they share a common past that will immediately be seen in the pilot episode of the series.
“Admittedly, like Barbie, the first few days, kinabahan din ako. ‘Yung filmmography ni Ms. Sharon, it speaks for itself. [She is] one of our country’s celebrated actors, I look up to her as an actor.
“But then when I finally shared a scene with her, nabiyak ‘yung takot ko,” Khalil recalled, telling the crowd that Sharon was the kindest and was like a mother to them on the set.
“Sobrang galing n’yo po, Ms. Sharon. I remember the first few scenes na medyo mabigat. As in, during the take, medyo na-windang ako. Parang, whoa. Paano niya ginawa ‘yun? Masterclass talaga. Super grabe,” Khalil said.
“Honor Thy Mother” also stars Mercedes Cabral, John Estrada, Criza Taa, and RK Bagatsing.
