Ryza Cenon ‘happy’ over work-life balance
MANILA, Philippines — Ryza Cenon is glad over how her showbiz career is taking off now that she is back working after years in hiatus. She is also elated that she’s able to balance her acting career and mommy duties to her son Night.
“Nagiging balanced po yung nangyari. I get to spend time with my son and I have time for my career. So nagiging balanced na po siya ngayon,” she shared in a virtual media conference for her latest starrer, Viva Films’ Kunwari… Mahal Kita, opposite Joseph Marco.
Ryza further said of her son, “He is a big boy already. He is two years old now and malikot na po siya ngayon. Sumasakit na po yung ulo ko and back (laughs).”
When asked if she is willing to do a daring role even if she is a mom already, she said she might give it a go as long as the scene requires it.
“It depends on the script,” she replied. “And if it really is required to be daring for the scene. Like in Ang Manananggal Sa Unit 23B (in 2016), I had to do a (risqué scene) for the character to transform. I was willing to do it kasi kailangan talaga sa story. But kung yung basta sexy lang, pass na po ako dun.”
Ryza likewise revealed that since her stint in FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, where she played the young Olga, doors have opened up for her. She received offers to do a reality show and star in the TV5 sitcom Kurdapya.
She said she was grateful to be given opportunities even though she was inactive in showbiz for some time.
“Of course, I am really happy. Sa tagal ko pong hindi lumabas parang nakakatuwa na they still remember me even though they don’t see me every day. I am very much thankful to direk Coco (Martin). I told him, ‘Direk, salamat at naalala mo ko. As in.’ Sabi ko sana maging regular ako. Hahaha!”
In the rom-com drama Kunwari… Mahal Kita, Ryza is Hydes who works in the resort where Greg (played by Joseph) is staying at.
As per media release, Greg escapes to La Union after his wife Cindy (Nathalie Hart) declares she wants an annulment.
When Cindy shows up at the resort and sees Greg with Hydes, she gets surprised and affected when he introduces Hydes as his girlfriend.
Hydes is also caught by surprise, but Greg begs her to just go along with this pretense. How will Hydes and Greg’s fake relationship end? Through all the lying and pretending, will the characters recognize what true love is?
For Ryza, delving into the comedy genre is quite challenging. “It’s a very difficult genre. Comedy requires right timing. So baka pagbitaw mo hindi naman pala nakakatawa. But the romance, you usually feel it every day and then may drama minsan sa buhay mo, so it’s not new to me. But doing comedy is a bit new to me.”
Moreover, it’s not the first time for Ryza and Joseph to be paired in an acting project. They had previously appeared together in one of the episodes of Maalala Mo Kaya (MMK).
Ryza shared, “That was the first show (MMK) that we collaborated on. That was the time that I just transferred to ABS-CBN.”
She said of her co-actors, “He (Joseph) is not difficult to work with. Actually, pati si direk (Roderick Lindayag) and Nathalie, they are easy to work with. It’s like we’re in an outing na may camera.”
She further described the Hanford endorser Joseph as “sexy and hot.”
Joseph, for his part, said he “enjoyed working” with Ryza. “From MMK pa lang, you can see that she is super committed sa work niya. Very professional. She makes you a better actor. She gives you a certain kind of confidence kasi yung commitment niya as an actor, talagang pino-portray niya yung character niya in a very nice way.”
Should he be given the chance to work with Ryza again, Joseph said he would “definitely say yes.”
