Anne Curtis: Simply a performer
MANILA, Philippines - “My singing career?” Anne Curtis smiles back when asked about her budding, newfound recording career. “It’s more of like my dream had happened. My dream was to have an album and to have a concert.”
Anne has become a sensation for making her Annebisyosa album reach platinum and filling up her Smart Araneta Coliseum concert to the rafters. It’s a sign that people troop to a show to get entertained heartily and go home smiling. Gone are the days for performances with signature eardrum-damaging vocal calisthenics. Nowadays, girls — and boys included — simply want to have fun. This is what Anne’s concert has proven to all and sundry.
“I’m happy,” shares the beautiful actress with that Julia Roberts big smile and Angelina Jolie pouty lips. “I always said, it’s not my career. It’s just a dream and I love to sing. I love to sing in karaoke.” Anne is “okey na ako” with what she has recently achieved in her career.
Does she consider herself a singing sensation or a breakthrough recording artist?
“Parang hindi naman,” answers Anne with a laugh. “I’m not a singer. I’m a performer kasi hindi ako marunong kumanta. Kaya nag-pe-perform na lang ako. I put on a show like I dance, I have fun. Tanggap naman natin na ’di talaga ako singer.”
Anne’s sincerity and honesty make her a cut above the rest — I mean different from other entertainers out there. That’s why when she asked the public to help her make her dream come true, they simply heed to her appeal and supported her.
Anne with fellow Century Tuna endorser Derek Ramsay Next month, Anne will begin her world tour in Cebu. After, she and her team will fly to the States (and the Middle East might be included in the itinerary) to spread the Annebisyosa brand of entertainment. This is an all-new show and not a repeat of what many saw and experienced at the Smart Araneta. “It’s hard to do a repeat of something (that’s a) novelty,” Anne says. “(Preparing for the show) is (also) hard because I’m doing a teleserye.” Since she is a real entertainer, Anne will definitely deliver.
Recently, Anne joined her No Other Woman co-star Derek Ramsay as the newest member of the Century Tuna family. The two along with Phil Younghusband will headline the brand’s Century Tuna Superbods 2012: Salute to Sexy, a nationwide search for men and women with the fittest and healthiest bodies. The competition is open to aspirants aged between 18 and 30 with a healthy lifestyle. For details, log on to www.centurysuperbods.ph or http://www.facebook.com/centurytuna. Among applicants, only 10 men and 10 women will be chosen to compete in the finals night in Boracay come April 14. Their stamina and smartness will be put to the test through challenges and a Q&A portion. The winners will have a Century Tuna exclusive contract, cover story in Men’s Health and Women’s Health and TVC and billboard.
What other surprises Anne has in store for her fans this year?
“I don’t know what else (I wish to do),” she replies. “Ano pa kaya? I want to put up my own business. I want to design. There are still many things out of the business that I want to achieve. We’ll see how everything works out this year after the teleserye.”
That’s enough warning from Anne to surprise you the next time she comes on stage or when she opens her bag full of tricks.
