P&G's 75 years of touching and improving Filipino lives

Oscar Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - 2010 is a milestone year for leading consumer goods company Procter & Gamble (P&G) Philippines as it celebrates its 75th year of operations in the country.

The company proudly celebrated its diamond anniversary in an Anniversary Gala for its employees, alumni, trade and industry partners, and its partners in the government, media, and the academe.  Amidst spectacular production numbers, the gala brought to life how P&G, its brands and its people, have remained committed to the company’s purpose of touching and improving the lives of the Filipino family for the past 75 years.

P&G’s long history in the Philippines began in 1935 when the company expanded its international presence with the acquisition of the Philippine Manufacturing Company (PMC). This made P&G Philippines the company’s first operations in the Far East and the third oldest globally.

From manufacturing soap, coconut oil, shortening and margarine in 1935, the company continued to introduce innovative products of the best value to improve the lives of the Filipino consumers.  Many of these products were the first of its kind across different product categories.

P&G Philippines now manufactures and distributes a very strong portfolio of over 20 brands across 15 product categories including Tide, the country’s first synthetic detergent; Safeguard, its first germicidal soap; Whisper, the country’s first winged feminine napkin; Pampers, its first disposable diaper; Joy, the country’s first dishwashing liquid; Downy, its first fabric conditioner; Rejoice, the country’s first 2-in-1 shampoo; and many others.

These constant innovations have allowed P&G to become the overall market leader in the Philippines’ FMCG industry with a corporate share of over 30 percent. As a way to thank Filipino families for their trust over the years, P&G treated its consumers to a 15 percent discount on selected variants across P&G brands in supermarkets nationwide.

Along with these brands, P&G also touches and improves Filipino lives through its people.  From a handful of employees in 1935, the P&G Philippines organization has grown to over 1,300 employees. The organization is proud of its employees and alumni, who have not only become leaders in the company and their communities, but are also recognized among the country’s notable Filipinos and nation builders.

At the gala event, the company reiterated its commitment to continue its contributions to nation building.

The 75th anniversary event of P&G will be aired on ABS-CBN Sunday’s Best on Dec. 12.
