Bakal Boys is Best Film in Lyons Asian Film Festival
Bakal Boys, a true-to-life indie film about six boys who dive into the polluted waters of Manila to get scraps of metal and sell them in junk shops, won the Public Award for Best Film at the Lyons Asian Film Festival in France.
In his letter to director Ralston Jover, filmfest director Jean Pierre said the audience and the team loved Bakal Boys. Pierre also called Bakal Boys “a very big success.”
China’s Piercing 1, directed by Liu Jian and South Korea’s Mother is a Whore directed by Lee Sang-woo placed second and third, respectively.
Bakal Boys (international title: Children Metal Divers) was shot in Baseco, Tondo. It cast real-life metal divers in major roles. Gina Pareño also stars in the film.
