Carlo Aquino in new season of Pahina
July 7, 2001 | 12:00am
For the maiden episode of Pahina’s new season, Balt (Carlo Aquino) aspires to become vice-president of the Bukal High School student council. He is going against Ariel Velarde, a popular candidate with a knack for flashy gimmicks but who has no solid platform.
While it seems Balt is facing imminent defeat, he discovers the modern poem Ang Guryon by Ildefonso Santos. In it, Santos talks about kiteflyers who engage in dirty tactics.
Pahina is ABS-CBN Foundation’s first Educational TV program that tackles Philippine literature for high school students. The new season premieres today, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., on ABS-CBN channel 2.
Future episodes of Pahina will feature poems by Jose Corazon de Jesus, Elynia S. Mabanglo, Jose F. Lacaba, Jess Santiago and Rolando S. Tinio; short stories by Genove Edroza-Matute and Benjamin Pascual; and a play by Paul Dumol. The Department of Education, Culture and Sports encourages public high school students to watch Pahina, which is intended to be an aid in teaching Philippine Literature.
