Diwa celebrates 25 years of innovation in education

-

Today’s leaders remember so well Bato Balani, the supplemental publication that enhanced their learning and quest for knowledge in their high school years. Tomorrow’s leaders will surely remember Genyo, that trailblazing e-Learning product that fast-tracks learning and puts them onboard the future of education.

A whole span of 25 years, this is how long one company has been trailblazing innovation in supplemental education to upgrade education in the country. In the face of advancements in technology, the same company now leads the way to integrate Information and Communications and Technology (ICT) in the learning experiences of today’s youth.

Diwa Learning Systems (DLSI), founded in 1983, is the leader in the educational publishing industry. It has under its wing top titles that today’s generation of leaders have learned with. A lot still remember the Science and Technology update they learned in high school from browsing the pages of Bato Balani Magazine, the scholastic enhancement material (SEM) that virtually started the company’s sterling achievements.

Today, the company produces educational magazines and textbooks for practically all subject areas — Science, Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Technology and Home Economics, PE, Health and Music, Computer, Values, and Christian Living Education. All are developed with subject area specialists and practitioners from the country’s leading educational institutions and complying with the Department of Education’s revised basic curriculum.

Now more than just ABC or traditional learning, Diwa focuses in ICT, to fulfill its thrust of innovating and introducing new technology in education.

The theme of the anniversary is “25 years in leading the way in ICT Integration,” according to Diwa Learning Systems Executive Director Jose Maria T. Policarpio. “ICT has been a cornerstone of company operations – from business processes to products,” he states.

Policarpio adds: “We have introduced companion CDs for all our textbooks, online pages to supplement our textbooks and magazines, electronic teachers’ guides and Genyo, the first fully integrated e-learning system for Philippine high-schools.”

Through Genyo, the company provides customized e-learning solutions to some of the top high schools in the country. Genyo includes multi-media content on Science, Math, English, Filipino and Araling Panlipunan, an intensive teacher training program, an interactive learning portal, ICT integration management services, network consulting and technical support, and a cellphone driven homework helper plus broadcast center.

The latest in the Genyo package is the online Learning Management System (LMS), a software application used to create, deliver and access content, as well as record, monitor, and assess student’s performance. The product is designed to help teachers manage classrooms better and easier.
