BFAR to hold fishery industry forum

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will spearhead the first fishery-based industry forum for micro, small and medium enterprises during the Agrilink International Trade Exhibit slated next month.

The forum, which will run from Oct. 15 to 17, aims to focus discussions on three  major concepts: the connection with various fishery-based MSMEs, the interplay of government credit and marketing assistance services, and the sharing by industry leaders of the latest marketing and promotion advancements.

It is expected to address recurring challenges and setbacks MSMEs experience in the face of tough market competition, lack of access to market, high cost of accessing raw materials, insufficient financial support, and underdeveloped skills and technology among others.

“We recognize the role of MSME’s in developing the Philippine economy. As they stem from the grassroots, we see the need to empower them as we combat problems caused by poverty.

This is also in compliance with the mandate of BFAR to provide market access for Philippine seafood products in the international market through the strengthening of our local products,” said Asis Perez, director and concurrent Undersecretary for Fisheries.

Another activity to be organized is “For EU market”, a fishery business forum and conference that is geared towards the discussion and unveiling of business growth potentials for the Philippines as a major exporter of fishery products to the European market.

Aside from conducting free seminars, it will also have a market and business matching of buyers and suppliers.

BFAR will also showcase its Seafood Village, where various seafood and aquatic products in the country will be displayed.

Majority of the exhibitors are MSMEs from the different regions nationwide.

The triple exhibit is also supported by the DA’s Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service, Bureau of Agricultural Research, Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization, FIT Corea, the Philippine representative of Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative, UNAHCO, Inoza Industries, Next Tech Resources and Belmont Agricorp and 30 major Philippine agribusiness and food associations.

These seminars are free, for details text 09175888799 or email [email protected].
