DigiPlus hits bump in Brazil venture

MANILA, Philippines — Digital entertainment company DigiPlus Interactive Corp. has encountered another obstacle in its venture in Brazil.

In a stock exchange filing, DigiPlus said Brazil President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has issued a provisional measure providing for the prohibition of the operation, offering, intermediation and advertising of fixed-odds betting and online gaming activities.

The company said the provisional measure, which took effect immediately upon publication, is subject to approval by the Brazilian Congress within the constitutionally prescribed period, which may extend to 120 days.

DigiPlus said it is assessing the development and its potential implications.

However, based on the company’s assessment at present, the provisional measure will not have a material impact on its financial condition or results of operations.

DigiPlus said it would continue to monitor developments in Brazil, with appropriate disclosures to be made should there be any material developments.

Shares of the company fell near its 52-week low of P7.90 yesterday. The company’s stock price closed at P7.95, down by 6.47 percent from its previous close of P8.50 last Friday. Its 52-week, high, meanwhile, is at P28.30.

DigiPlus made its first international foray in Brazil, a market which represents a significant growth opportunity with a population exceeding 200 million and great enthusiasm for sports betting.

In October last year, the company announced a strategic pause on its first Brazilian brand following the soft launch on Sept. 22, 2025.

The temporary pause was seen as a strategic step for the company to return with a stronger digital entertainment offering.

Last July, DigiPlus also announced that it has become a member of the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR), a group composed of members representing more than 60 percent of Brazil’s regulated betting market.

The inclusion in IBJR was seen bolstering its commitment to regulation and efforts to fight against illegal gaming operations.

Aside from Brazil, DigiPlus is also building the team that will develop the country’s South Africa venture, which it plans to launch in 2027.

DigiPlus, the company behind BingoPlus, ArenaPlus and GameZone, received last April licenses to operate from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board in South Africa.
