SM Prime to put up more EV charging stations

MANILA, Philippines — SM Prime Holdings Inc. is looking to include its residential communities and leisure estates in its plans to put up more electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across its developments as part of its push for sustainable mobility.

SM Prime said it targets to add at least 50 more EV charging stations within the year to support low-emission transport further.

As of end-March, SM Prime has 131 EV charging stations installed across its nationwide portfolio of malls and office developments.

The company is also planning future installations for its residential communities and leisure estates to make sustainable mobility more accessible across its integrated property portfolio.

“Integrating sustainable practices into our operations is a core part of SM Prime’s long-term strategy,” SM Prime president Jeffrey Lim said.

“Through this initiative, we are also supporting the government’s vision for an inclusive and future-ready EV ecosystem,” he said.

SM Prime, the integrated property developer of the Sy family’s SM Group, is a Department of Energy (DOE)-accredited EV charging station provider-operator.

The company ensures that its facilities comply with national standards and safety protocols.

The DOE’s roadmap targets a 25-percent EV share in the passenger vehicle market by 2030, rising to 50 percent by 2040.

To support the growth, a sufficient number of charging stations nationwide must also be deployed.

SM Prime said the company’s expanding EV charging network underscores its role in transforming the country’s transport landscape and fostering climate-resilient urban development.

“We are focused on making sustainability practical and accessible. Expanding our EV charging network is one way of enabling Filipinos to adopt greener habits as part of daily life,” Lim said.
