PGEC cleared to start Pangasinan solar farm

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Yuchengco-led PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) is set to start development of its 25-megawatt direct current solar power project in Pangasinan early next year after securing full support from local government units.

PGEC said the LGU of Bugallon, Pangasinan and the Sangguniang Bayan have issued the project’s locational clearance to PGEC.

The company expects corresponding pre-construction building permit to be issued in time for the target start of development in January 2024.

The LGU and the Sangguniang Bayan of Bugallon had earlier issued a resolution interposing no objection on the renewable energy project.

PGEC’s Bugallon solar power project will be located in a 25-hectare site in Brgy. Salomague Sur.

It is expected to supply clean and renewable power in the area by the last quarter of 2024.

The facility is expected to generate 41,000 megawatt hours of power annually and reduce carbon emissions by 29,056 metric tons upon operation.

PGEC said support from LGUs is crucial in ensuring that the investments and efforts of the private sector to increase the country’s renewable energy supply will eventually succeed.

PGEC, the renewable energy holding firm of publicly listed PetroEnergy Resources Corp. (PERC), has lined up new projects in Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, and Central Visayas to expand its solar power portfolio.

These solar projects will see commercial operations by 2024 to 2025.

PGEC is 75 percent owned by PERC and 25 percent owned by Kyuden International Corp., the overseas investment outfit of Kyushu Electric Power.
