MANILA, Philippines — Wireless giant Globe Telecom Inc. has broadened its outdoor coverage in Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao after sustaining the expansion of its 5G footprint in the country and overseas.

In an update, Globe said it built 716 new 5G sites in the nine months to September, enabling it to raise its 5G coverage to 97.67 percent in Metro Manila and 92.06 percent in cities in Visayas and Mindanao.

Globe managed to connect more than 5.2 million devices to the 5G network in September alone, signifying the growing adoption of the technology among Filipinos.

Abroad, Globe expanded its 5G partnership to a total of 156 carriers operating in 82 destinations. This way, the telco said subscribers may access the internet via 5G even when they are overseas.

Recently, Globe has brought its 5G services to Aland Islands, Crete, Croatia, Guatemala, India, Kazakhstan, Lao PDR, Nigeria, Peru, Romania, Seychelles and South Africa. Also, Globe offers 5G connections to foreign nationals visiting the Philippines.

Globe chief customer experience officer Rebecca Eclipse said the telco wants Filipinos to adopt 5G given the opportunities that the technology opens for customers.

When compared to 4G, 5G provides consumers with faster speeds and lower latency, resulting in games running smoother, websites loading quicker, among others.

As of September, Globe has spent P54 billion for capital expenditures, primarily network builds, to meet the growing data requirements across the Philippines.
