DoubleDragon bringing hotel venture to Japan

Iris Gonzales - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — DoubleDragon Corp., chaired by Edgar “Injap” Sia II, has moved a step closer toward its goal of bringing the Hotel101 brand overseas.

Its subsidiaries, DDPC Worldwide Pte. Ltd. and Hotel101 Worldwide Private Ltd., have acquired a 9,000-square-meter land for its first international Hotel101 to be built at the Hokkaido Prefecture in Japan.

Sia envisions the Hotel101 brand to become a homegrown hotel brand known globally similar to brands of other countries such as Holiday Inn for the US, Novotel for Europe and Jinjiang Inn for China.

“We also aim to bring pride and honor to each and every Filipino from anywhere around the world where Hotel101 may eventually locate and operate,” Sia said.

The concept patent of Hotel101’s condotel concept has already been filed and the Hotel101 trademark and country specific domains have been secured in various countries globally, DoubleDragon said in a regulatory filing.

Furthermore, DoubleDragon is developing the Hotel101 app for both Apple iOS and Android to efficiently work in multiple countries.

Hotel101-Niseko will target domestic Japanese travelers in Japan, foreign tourists as well as Filipino travelers who visit Hokkaido for leisure. The site is accessible to Filipino travelers via a few hours of flight from Manila to Sapporo New Chitose Airport.

Niseko is famous   for its powder snow and Kutchan Town, where the property is located, is one of the foremost areas of heavy snowfall reaching 13 meters on average with some of the driest and lightest snow in the world.

The Hotel101 concept allows DoubleDragon to generate revenue and income twice, first from the pre-selling of the Happy Room units, then second after the project is constructed as it generates long term recurring revenue from hotel operations.

In Manila, Hotel101 recorded an average occupancy rate of 96.03 percent last year.
