TPB to launch motorcycle tourism program in November

MANILA, Philippines — The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the marketing and promotions arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT), is set to launch a program targeted on motorcycle tourism later this year. The program will feature some of the country’s remote areas of tourism interest.

In a post on its Facebook page, the TPB said it would bring its Moto Tourism (Motourismo) caravan to various parts of the country starting November.

“Through its partnership with DOT and various motorcycle clubs and associations in the Philippines, the Moto Tourism (Motourismo) caravan will feature the country’s main island groupings – Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao,” the TPB said.

It said the event would be both an on-road and off-road ride through the Philippines’ remote areas of tourism interest.

“Riders will not only have a chance to test out their motorcycles, but also immerse themselves through their short stay with the local communities,” the TPB said.

In 2017, the DOT’s CALABARZON office shared plans of developing its motorcycle tourism sector as this would help promote some of the region’s lesser known destinations.

The region proposed three routes for motorcycle riders visiting the region to allow them to see more of the region. Among the areas to be traversed by the proposed routes are from Manila going to Antipolo, to Tanay, Morong, San Mateo, Pililia (all in Rizal), and the next going to Quezon, with the last route passing Batangas, Laguna and Tagaytay.

Meanwhile, former senator JV Ejercito expressed support for the upcoming motorcycle tourism program as it would help revive domestic tourism.

Ejercito recently guested in an episode of motorcycle tele-magazine show Ride PH to feature some of the places to visit via motorcycle in the Rizal area.

“This is our effort to support the Department of Tourism and Tourism Promotions Board’s push for domestic tourism to stimulate economic growth after this pandemic,”Ejercito said in a Facebook post.

The DOT earlier said that the domestic tourism market is seen to lead the recovery of the country’s tourism industry.

The tourism sector, a key driver of the economy, is among the hardest hit industries by the COVID-19 pandemic.
