Philab acquires 60% of BetterHealth Philippines

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Philab Industries Inc., the country’s most experienced institution in the field of laboratory development and scientific research, has signed an agreement to acquire 60 percent of BetterHealth Philippines, a rapidly-growing medical exchange platform founded by health enthusiast and tech entrepreneur Sargon Petros in 2014.

This acquisition will supplement and broaden Philab’s efforts in the field of medicine, continuing its long legacy of providing tools and solutions to improve people’s healthcare. “In less than two years, BetterHealth Philippines has come up with ingenious products and services that have the potential to completely transform our way of accessing healthcare,” said Philab chairman and CEO Hector Thomas Navasero. “We are excited to further our mission of empowering the patient with the addition of BetterHealth Philippines.”

Based in Makati, BetterHealth, which initially focused on offering solutions for nutrition management, has, in just a short period of time, expanded and diversified its portfolio. This company has brought its technology-driven concepts and solutions to the areas of medicine and health science, with the end goal of improving consumer health. The said acquisition will allow the two companies to work together, and develop products that enable consumers to address issues or better manage their own health.

Petros pointed out Philab and BetterHealth form the perfect synergy. “They’ve got an impressive 50+ years of experience in medicine and sciences. And, we’ve got the ability to innovate with new technologies and concepts.” He shared that this partnership would also lead to the further expansion of the existing business, accelerate R&D and nationwide expansion. “2016 will be another year of growth for us, and it will be bigger and better with Philab.”

Known for building and equipping laboratories all over the country and Asia, Philab has also entered the field of medicine and technology. The company pioneered the next generation sequencing for medical and agbio genomics in the Philippines. In 2013, it founded the Genomic Institute of Asia, a not for profit genomics research institution. In 2014, Philab launched its breast cancer and medical hereditary medical panel genomic services. Philab plans to expand in providing genomics services to the region, as the country’s first BPO for genomic sequencing and bioinformatics.
