Robinsons cited for rebuilding Yolanda-hit Tacloban

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - More often than not, the opening of a shopping complex is a time for pomp and festivity.  However, following the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, the re-opening of Robinsons Place Tacloban was a momentous community milestone in that it was not merely a rebuilding of one of the biggest commercial establishments of the city but was also a symbolic restoration of the community’s faith and optimism.

Last Oct. 20, 2015, the International Council of Shopping Centers’ Asia Pacific Centre Awards recognized the dedication that has been invested in Robinsons Place Tacloban’s re-opening with a Silver Award for Marketing Excellence granted to Robinsons Land Corp.’s Commercial Centers Division.

Besting 172 other entries all over the Asia Pacific region, the Silver Award was received by RLC’s Commercial Centers Division general manager Arlene G. Magtibay during awarding ceremonies at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Taipei.

According to Robinsons Land Corp.’s entry to the ISCS Asia Pacific Centre Awards, “the re-opening conveyed to residents a sense of normality returning to the region. The hand of friendship was extended to the community with Robinsons Place Tacloban re-opening as the community’s friend and hub, where locals could once again enjoy themselves and come together to bond with family and friends.”

Founded in 1957, ICSC is the global trade association aiming to advance the shopping center industry and to promote its role in the commercial distribution of consumer goods and services.
