Buses, non-airport taxis now allowed in NAIA Terminal 3

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines —  Unaccredited transportation services are now allowed to pick up passengers from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, the airport management said Sunday.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Jose Angel Honrado said the permit to buses and unaccredited taxis will remain until the agency finds a permanent solution to address the shortage of transport for passengers.

"We lack transport. Unfortunately, among the four terminals, Terminal 3 is the only terminal not being services by regular buses since they have no bus lines there," Honrado said in a state news report.

The policy will also cut the long queues of passengers waiting for NAIA-accredited or "airport" taxis during rush hours, he said.

Airport officials are also coordinating with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to allow three private bus companies without NAIA accreditation to provide short-haul routes specially for airport commuters.

Honrado also said MIAA is discussing with the Department of Transportation and Communication how to hasten the acquisition of additional transport services to facilitate land travel for airport passengers.

In October, MIAA launched free shuttle services for arriving passengers with connecting flights from one terminal to another. - Camille Diola
