Palm Concepcion taps Alstom for equipment supply for power proj

MANILA, Philippines - European technology firm Alstom has signed a supply contract with Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC) for the equipment needed for the 135-megawatt (MW) circulating fluidized-bed power plant to be constructed by the NLSC consortium.

The NLSC consortium is comprised of First Northeast Electric Power Engineering Corp. of China, Liaoning Electric Power Survey & Design Institute and Shenyang Electric Power Design Institute Co. Ltd.

In the agreement with Palm Concepcion, Alstom will deliver one unit of 135-MW steam turbine, generator set and auxiliaries.

This development moves the proponents of the project a step closer in constructing the plant, which is touted as the most advanced and most fuel-efficient plant in the Visayas.

“We are very pleased to be successful with our compact, cost efficient and reliable industrial steam turbines, which are employed for various applications. It also confirms our customer’s confidence in the performance and the reliability of our industrial steam turbines,” said Wouter Van Wersch, senior vice president for sales and marketing of Alstom Power Asia Pacific.

Alstom is also behind the construction of the 620-MW Limay combined-cycle power plant and the 1,200-MW Sual coal-fired power plant in the 1990s.

The contract aims to be completed by end 2015, officials said.

The Concepcion Iloilo project involves the construction of a 135-MW power generation plant starting with one unit of 135-MW utilizing coal as primary fuel and using circulating fluidized bed combustion (CFBC) technology.

In March, the company signed a coal supply contract with PT. Pevensey Indonesia to ensure the coal requirements for the power generation facility.

PT. Pevensey is a Jakarta-based company, which markets coal, iron ore and carbon products to power plants in China, India and the Philippines.
