Emperador acquires Diageo facility
Manila, Philippines - Emperador Distillers Inc. (EDI) the liquor unit of Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI) has purchased a production facility from the Philippine unit of Diageo, the world’s biggest premium drinks group, for an undisclosed price.
The acquisition of Diageo’s facilities at the Laguna Technopark in Binan, Laguna would help increase our production and technical capabilities in the Philippines to boost our competitivess in promoting Emperador as a strong global brand,” AGI chairman Andrew Tan said”.
AGI investor relations officer John Hao said the purchase is seen to boost EDI’s total bottling capacity by 20 percent.
He said the acquisition will also allow EDI to produce carbonated RTD (ready-to-drink) products as well.
EDI currently produces Emperador, Generoso and Emperador Light brandies and a line of flavored alcoholic beverages called The Bar.
Tan said EDI expects 2012 to be another banner year in terms of sales revenues and net income. It is eyeing a 20 percent growth in net earnings this year.
“Today, Emperador is recognized as the largest-selling brandy brand in the world by volume,” Tan pointed out.
Diageo produces a wide collection of beverage alcohol brands across spirits, beer and wine. Among these brands include Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Captain Morgan and Guinness, which are sold in more than 180 countries.
