Re-membering into life

A SPIRITED SOUL - Jeannie Javelosa - The Philippine Star
Re-membering into life

It’s December. And like all Decembers that come, it hits me that it’s the last month of the year. Was it not only yesterday that December came by, too? It’s been a busy year, such a painfully fast and tiring year with such wild energies everywhere. Noisier, too. One of my millennial friends said she felt November went away like all of three days. “It’s just too fast!” was her lament.

For the “feel-ennials” like me, it’s not just the speed, but also the noise. I have kept away from the news and television, from the screaming headlines of papers when I can to just keep at bay such negative lower energies. Then the hyper-reality of social media is as frenzied as it blurs the truth between reality and fiction, and I feel the push-pull of consciousness being created and controlled while I strive   not to be addicted to the space.

From conflicts to illogical madness of politics and power plays all over the world, from personalities that play out “god powers” from continuing choices that bring the planet to its environmental crisis mode — we are in the midst of living the “chaos theory.” The frequency of these negative events that only seem to accelerate and gravity of the problems shows a pattern demanding to be looked at and acted on. The pattern is about the destruction of all institutional forms, all traditional mindsets, all systems by which we define how we will live in the world we have, up to now, created. When we watch the wanton destruction of our planet and the totally unsustainable way we are living, I can’t help but question our human intelligence as we ourselves continue to destroy and pollute the clean, the fresh, the innocent, the beautiful.

All the outward manifestations of our physical world reflect the state of our own inner worlds, our own minds. All things begin in the mind, in the realm of thought. Quantum physics already shows that everything in our cosmos is made of energy. Energy that follows thought. Energy that can be directed to be either destructive (lower) or constructive (higher creative thoughts). The awareness of our energies, our thoughts, our actions and where we direct them is key in the state of our world today. If we think and act, feel and react from the unconscious lower parts of our ego where issues like greed, pride, power, envy, selfishness, neurosis-filled, fear, judgment, anger, narcissism all reside, then obviously, we aren’t releasing the higher energies needed to help our world. When we react from this level, we slip back to the old world, the stale paradigm and mindset that just doesn’t work. What is the deeper lesson being taught that we must take heed of? If a failure of a present system is what we are looking at, it should certainly be followed by a new paradigm.

Within the chaos is a swirling dervish of initiatives that science, technology and the creative visions of the inspired are bringing in. Science is acknowledging that we are part of the giant web of connection that encompasses all life in our planet, and even our solar system! Religion and belief systems are opening to inclusive spirituality. Our interconnection can also be seen in global efforts at intentional communities rising together to solve problems and bring about newer sustainable solutions for production, consumption, collaborations and partnerships.

The challenge to find some meaning in this chaos is led by the spirit of the young as they search for meaning. They who call themselves millennials want to adventure in the now, question authority, rise to challenges. They are re-“membering” into life as they live in the now with technology as a partner, already a done deal. They ask: What is life about? Can I define it around my own set of parameters? What is my reality, or even better, what is the signifier I hold onto with the proliferation of no genuine reality (example fake news, e-games, trolls, Photoshopped reality)? If adults are destroying our world, what would we do to help preserve our future here in this planet?

As another year comes to a close, maybe there is some wisdom to feeling-“millennial” if we begin “re-membering” into a new way of looking at life. Everything happening in the world is depleting the Spirit, downgrading the good, erasing the clean. Global problems are enormous so we stay with something we each can control: we must take responsibility for our own energies. “Self-care” must be put at the top of one’s “to-do” list. This means to carve out activities that are life giving — in relationship to one’s self. Self-care is about creating sacred spaces that help us raise our energies/frequencies/emotions and mental states, to consciously choosing the people we want around us and creating intentional communities focused on the positive. It is about taking time-out daily to explore our inner worlds aligning towards spiritual practices that honor Spirit. This inner world is not only mental, but deeply emotional, too. In prayer, healing, intention setting and meditation towards embracing wholeness, healthy and peace. With conscious self-care, then the upward climb, the forward push, the steadfast belief in what is good cannot be washed away by tiredness or a sense of helplessness at the gigantic issues we all face in our lives, society and global world. Self-care is our relationship to loving ourselves for it is here we will learn self-understanding, patience and compassion, then we have a chance of bringing deeper awareness and the higher energies of love out to the world. *
