Attention: The military influence invades Swatch

GO-SEE - Joyce Oreña -

A military coup is brewing, yet again, but worry not: I’m talking about a fashion invasion. The military might has infiltrated fashion again and again. And Swiss fashion watch and jewelry maker Swatch leads the pack.

Attention! Equip yourself with the latest military inspired Swatch and be victorious in the fashion front.

Watch out for Swatch’s Gent Originals, Irony Big and Irony Chrono stylish interpretation of the camo look in fashion, street and sportswear. The Gents flaunt camo patterns in a range of fashionable color combinations with black plastic cases and buckles framing silicone straps and dials. The Irony Big models present a softer version of the camouflage theme with understated hues on textured silicone straps and color-matched dials and cases. Completing the street-smart theme are the Irony Chrono models in colors that match and blend with the natural surroundings, from desert sand and stone to shades of forest green and the black of night.

Get the boot: In the field of men’s fashion, the military influence comes from the ‘40s and ‘50s in tailored coats, aviator jackets and boots. Just like these fatigue-like, winged Jeremy Scott boots

Attention! The latest men’s fashion also beats to the sound of the military drum.

In the field of men’s fashion, the military influence comes from the ‘40s and ‘50s in tailored coats, aviator jackets and boots as seen at Burberry Prorsum, Alexander McQueen, Versace Salvatore Ferragamo and Neil Barrett. Mod military jackets and outerwear ruled the runways.

Attention! Stylized versions of the military uniform continue to infiltrate the style world.

Military tailoring paraded the women’s fashion runways. Military uniforms, from gold-thread-embroidered admiral jackets to the kind of gilt-buttoned drummer jackets, military greatcoats, camouflage anoraks and parkas, variations of field jackets with multiple pockets and gusseted cuffs, peaked officer’s caps, embellishments like sashes and epaulets, tailored cargo pants and olive green colored pieces released a parade of military clout. Interpretations of battle gear invaded the fashion world.

Practically every detail of the military has been utilized in civilian fashion from field jackets to aviator leather jackets, navy as a standard of modern dress, sailors’ drop front bell-bottom trousers, pea jackets, knit sweaters of sailors and commandos, aviator glasses and camouflage to mention a few.

The late 20th-century fashion editor and icon Diana Vreeland even called uniforms “the sportswear of the 19th century.”

“When John Galliano introduced camouflage to his runways nearly a decade ago, at that moment camouflage had already reached its saturation point in the street,” said David Wolfe, the creative director for the Doneger Group, a New York trend-forecasting company. “My thought was, ‘This will mean nothing, because it’s out there already,’” Mr. Wolfe recalled in the New York Times in February 2010. Much to his astonishment, however, the collection “started a virtual tsunami of camouflage through the market again.”

Attention! There is no stopping the military coup. Mainstream fashion also provided full-on military-infected styles for mass consumption.

The military influence in the style world is all about form and function and not about any political statement. For this reason, military might will never go out of style. It has stood the test of time. To further emphasize its influence, the military-inspired jacket has already become a go-to staple of every modern woman’s wardrobe.

The utilitarian trend has made a big impact on the fashion scene. In fact, it is so powerful that the effect is relentless.

Attention! With this continuing love affair with all things military, its fashion dominance is definitely here to stay. Consequently, an inventive military-inspired Swatch is definitely a keeper. Take this stylish trend to the wrist for an immediate fashion triumph.
