Cignal TV, UAAP extend partnership

MANILA, Philippines — The UAAP is not going anywhere at least for the next five seasons.

The UAAP yesterday renewed its broadcast and marketing partnership with Cignal TV under the MediaQuest Holdings Inc. for another five years, promising a joint effort to ensure a better and higher-technology coverage across all platforms starting in Season 89 to be hosted by Far Eastern U.

Under the new deal, Cignal vowed a relentless pursuit to bring the UAAP games closer to Filipino fans nationwide and ensure the best platform for student-athletes to shine from different sports from Season 89 to 93.

Santo Tomas is hosting the current 88th Season, the last year of their first deal during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

“I think we’re very glad and privileged to extend our coverage of the UAAP, which is the premier sports league in the country, with its member universities. It’s a five-year engagement, and we promise to improve the coverage of all the sports of the association,” said Manny V. Pangilinan, chairman of the MVP Group of Companies and MediaQuest Holdings.

“The UAAP is a content and league that we value. It’s a content that the Filipinos love. It would be a crime if we don’t cover the UAAP for the Filipino people. We look at ourselves as a sports channel with the widest range of sports contents in the country and we value the UAAP as a major part of it. We thank the UAAP for the trust and the confidence and we’ll do our best to broadcast the UAAP in the best way possible,” added MediaQuest Holdings president and CEO Ricky Vargas.

With Cignal TV and MediaQuest Holdings, the UAAP is accessible across all TV and online platforms for maximum exposure of the student-athletes, who time and again have ascended as would-be stars in the PBA, PVL, Gilas Pilipinas, Alas Pilipinas and even abroad in the Korean Basketball League, Japan. B League, Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games and the Olympic Games.

“Today’s ceremonial signing represents a shared vision to elevate varsity sports, empower young athletes and bring the excitement of the homes of the Filipino people across the nation through wide and extensive coverage,” added University of Santo Tomas rector Rev. Fr. Richard Ang, OP, who is serving as UAAP Season 88 chairman as the host school.
