MANILA, Philippines — Reigning titlist La Salle regained its winning touch, thumping lowly University of the East, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18, in the UAAP season 81 women’s volleyball yesterday.

Thrown into unfamiliar territory after dropping a pair of matches against University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas – their first back-to-back losses since the season 77 finals –  the Lady Spikers got back on track and stayed right behind frontrunners UP (3-1) and ADMU (3-1) at 4-2.

Rookie Jolina dela Cruz paced DLSU with 14 points on nine hits, three aces and two blocks while also guarding the floor with 10 digs and a couple of excellent receptions.

Tin Tiamzon started in lieu of injury-hit Des Cheng (shoulder) and punched in 10 points with all but one coming off attacks while Lourdes Clemente had eight points, half of them from her blocks.

“We know that we each had our own shortcomings in those losses. We tried our best. We started anew. Coach (Ramil de Jesus) told us that we just have to forget that and focus on our game against UE and we’ll start from there,” said Tiamzon.

De Jesus did not attend the post-game press conference as he had to go straight to his other team, F2 Logistics, which has a game on the same day in the Philippine Superliga.

Judith Abil, Mean Mendrez and Zilfa Olarve each had eight points for UE which slid to its third straight setback at 1-5.

Abil also collected 18 excellent receptions and 13 digs.
