Global, Ceres target AFC semis berths
MANILA, Philippines - Global Cebu FC and Ceres Negros FC gun for places in the AFC Cup zonal semifinals tonight when they close out their respective group stage campaigns against separate rivals.
Group F pacesetter Global (12 points) seeks the clincher against also-ran Beoungkret Angkor of Cambodia (four points) in a home fixture at Rizal Memorial Stadium while Group G leader Ceres (eight points) aims to get a pass to the next phase with a win against Singapore’s Tampines Rovers (six points) over at Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
Cebu-based Global enters the 8:35 p.m. game riding the crest of a big 3-2 conquest of Johor Darul Ta’zim and a 4-2 disposal of Magwe.
“The team is in high spirits but we can’t be complacent,” Global keeper Patrick Deyto said.
