Lady Chiefs gain NC volley semis
MANILA, Philippines - Arellano University disposed of Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20, to join unbeaten San Sebastian in the Final Four of the NCAA Season 92 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan yesterday.
Jovielyn Prado hit 12 points for the Lady Chiefs, who chalked up their seventh win against one loss to move behind the Lady Stags, who pace the field with a 7-0 slate.
“Even if we are constantly winning, we should still work hard and avoid being complacent,” said AU coach Obet Javier.
If San Sebastian sweeps its last two matches, the Lady Stags head straight to the finals with a huge thrice-to-beat advantage. A Top 2 finish, on the other hand, will give Arellano a twice-to-beat edge in the stepladder semis.
In a duel of ousted teams, Jose Rizal University held off Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 25-20, 24-26, 25-21, 25-19.
JRU upped its card to 3-5 while CSJL slid to 1-7.
Meanwhile, in men’s play, Arellano University downed Lyceum, 25-22, 25-16, 25-27, 25-19, to assure itself of a least a playoff for a semifinal spot with a 6-2 card.
LPU dropped out of contention at 3-5.
In juniors play, Lyceum inched closer to an outright finals seat as it subdued Arellano, 22-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 15-13.
The Junior Pirates remain unscathed at 6-0 while the Junior Braves fell to 4-2.
Cherilyn Sindayen and Czarina Orros scored 11 points apiece while Christine Miralles and Monica Sevilla contributed 10 markers each for the Lady Pirates, who dropped to 5-3. They next play the Lady Stags.
