MANILA, Philippines — While women's volleyball is fast emerging as a popular sport in the country, their male counterparts remain in the background.

This is why newly named head coach of the men's national team Sammy Acaylar wants more exposure to find more promising athletes.

"Dapat masuportahan today, during Spiker's Turf." Acaylar said Tuesday during the weekly PSA Forum at the Rizal Memorial Complex media center.

"Hindi sila exposed. Kulang ng league unlike women's na may more exposure for them," he added.

While female volleyball players have the Shakey's V-League – which will be called Philippine V-League this year – and the Philippine SuperLiga to play at after their collegiate days, male volleyball players are limited to the Spiker's Turf.

The Spiker's Turf was founded in 2015. The PSL staged a men's competition from 2013-2014 but has since focused on women's volleyball.

Acaylar, meanwhile, will conduct tryouts for the national team training pool but declined to name specific players he wants in the team.

"I have (names) in my mind, I have potential players," he said.
