ICTSI Foundation supports Manila Jeepney F Club

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The ICTSI Foundation, Inc., the corporate social responsibility arm of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), recently partnered with the Manila Jeepney Football Club as part of the Foundation’s support to the City of Manila’s various sports programs.

“We saw the potential of a strong partnership with the City of Manila in the area of sports. The ICTSI Foundation believes in what sports could offer in providing life skills to the youth of Manila. Manila is home to ICTSI’s flagship Manila International Container Terminal and we are committed to assist government efforts in transforming communities into safe and growth havens for marginalized young persons,” said ICTSI Foundation executive director Narlene Soriano.

The foundation’s core advocacy – to provide support mechanisms to the youth sector of ICTSI’s immediate host communities through education, social services and sports – is aligned with the efforts of the government of Manila to improve the lives of the urban poor youth through sports.

Manila Jeepney, a newly formed football club, currently serves as the official football team of the city of Manila in the United Football League (UFL), the country’s premier football league.

Manila Jeepney has also launched a football development program dubbed LIPAD for Manila’s streetchildren. It seeks to enhance the lives of the indigent youth through the sport.

ICTSI has been at the forefront of Philippine sports through its support of the Philippine Golf Tour, the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour, the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines, the Philippine ladies amateur golf team, the sports development program of the De La Salle University, and the upcoming Philippine Kiteboarding Tour.

Through the foundation, ICTSI also backed Team Manila, the country’s ladies softball team, in the Big League World Series campaign last August, and recently, it forged a partnership with Manila Jeepney.

Under the program, some 500 streetchildren will undergo 30 free football clinics for six months under the club’s UFL Division 2 team LIPAD’s trainers and instructors starting this month up to June 2014.

“LIPAD was conceived as we felt that football is more than a tool for sporting excellence and entertainment,” said Manila Jeepney director Javier Mantecon.
