PNP, FEU clash in crucial VL tiff

The Philippine Star

Games tomorrow

2 p.m. – PNP vs FEU

4 p.m. – Air Force vs Meralco

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police and Far Eastern U collide today in a duel of winless teams seeking to crash into the quarterfinal round via backdoor even as qualifiers Air Force and Meralco try to improve their respective records in the Shakey’s V-League 10 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.

Both winless in five games, the Lady Patrollers and the Lady Tams slug it out in the 2 p.m. opener with the winner joining Navy at sixth and staying in the hunt for the last quarterfinal berth in the season-ending conference of the league sponsored by Shakey’s.

A victory by PNP will ease out FEU from the quarters race while rendering the PNP-Navy match at the close of the elims Friday a knockout game for the last QF seat.

But a win by FEU today and a PNP victory over Navy on Friday, coupled by an Army win over FEU, also Friday, will create a three-way tie for sixth. In this case, the top two teams after the tiebreaker will dispute the last quarters berth and the other settling for eighth place.

PNP coach Bob Malenab hopes to draw the best from Thai reinforcement Sangmuang Patcharee and local aces Janine Marciano and Frances Molina as they take on an FEU side coming off a week-long rest.
