Jinkee Pacquiao wants husband to retire

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – If Jinkee Pacquiao will have her way, he wants her husband, Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, to hang up his boxing gloves.

"No comment, siyempre hindi ko alam nasa isip niya (of course, I don't know what's on his mind)," said Jinkee, who was with Pacquiao when he arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 this morning.

"Kung kaming pamilya ang tatanungin, ayaw na namin (If our family will be asked, we don't want him to fight anymore)," she added.

For the duration of the television interview with GMA 7 morning show "Unang Hirit," Jinkee accompanied Pacquiao but parted with his other half an hour later to go straight to Binan, Laguna where her sons Michael, Manuel, Jr. and Queen Elizabeth await.

Jinkee actually made it known that she wants her husband to call it quits right after that fateful sixth round knockout defeat to Juan Manuel Marquez last Sunday, when she was seen on television crying profusely.

Interestingly, Pacquiao's mother, Dionisia, made the same plea.

Jinkee reiterated it today.

However, it looked like it fell on deaf ears as Pacquiao announced he will not retire and will make a comeback sometime on April or May.

"Pahinga muna, per hindi pa ako mag-re-retire (I will rest first, but I will not retire yet)," said Pacquiao, who added he'll probably take a three-, or perhaps five-month rest before he plunges into action again.
