Rosales makes cut; Delasin out

-

Jennifer Rosales carded a one-over-par 71 and safely advanced to the final 36 holes of the Philips Invitational jointly paced by Laura Davies and Sherri Turner at the Onion Creek Club in Austin, Texas Friday (Saturday in Manila).

Together with his two-over-par card in the first round, Rosales pooled a 143 for a share of 46th place with 17 others, eight strokes off the 135s posted by Davies and Turner. Davies fired a 67 while Turner, who sizzled with a 65 in the opening round, carded a 70.

But while Rosales safely made the cut pegged at 144, her sixth in nine appearances in the LPGA Tour, compatriot Dorothy Delasin failed to advance with a shocking second round foldup in this $850,000 event serving as the 11th leg of the circuit.

After firing a 68 Thursday for joint sixth place, Delasin shot herself in the foot with a seven-over-par 77 on a day when the par-70 layout practically yielded to low scoring. She missed the cut by one stroke.

Defending champion Akiki Fukushima came up with a 67 to lead the 136 scorers, who included Janice Moodie (66), Alicia Dibos (66), Susie Redman (67), Dawn Coe-Jones (68) and Jill McGill (68).

Rosales, the 21-year-old five-time Philippine Ladies Open champion, tees off in the company of Betsy King and Emilee Klein, hoping to come up with respectable scores in the last two rounds in a bid to erase the stigma of her third-to-last finish in last week's Chick-fil-A Charity Championship in Georgia.
