19-man taekwondo team sasabak sa world c’ships

MANILA, Philippines - Kabuuang 19 lalaki at babaeng jins ang magdadala sa kampanya ng Philippines/SMART Team para sa 2014 World University Taekwondo Championships na nakatakda sa Hunyo 8-14 sa Hohhot, China.

Pinamumunuan nina officials Roberto Cruz, Dindo Simpao at Jean Pierre Sabido, sasabak ang mga atleta sa kyorugi (free sparring) at poomsae (forms) events ng torneo na nagtatampok sa mga pinakamahuhusay na university athletes.

Ang mga Filipino campaigners na sasabak sa men’s kyorugi ay sina Francis Aaron Agojo, Enrique Edgardo Mora IV, Lorenz Chavez, Arven Alcantara, Eddtone Lumasac, Christian Al Dela Cruz at Nicole Zapata.

Sina Korina Paladin, Ronnielette Balancio, Nicole Abigail Cham, Clouie Bolinas, Patricia Francesca Gonzalez at Jane Rafaelle Narra ang lalaban sa wo-men’s kyorugi.

Sa poomsae kakampan-ya sina Vidal Marvin Gabriel, Dustin Jacob Mella, Raphael Enrico Mella, Juvenile Faye Crisostomo, Leanarda Nicole Landrito at Jocel Lyn Ninobla.

“It is a great opportunity and exposure for our athletes to participate in the World University championships,” sabi ni Philippine Taekwondo Association CEO Sun Chon Hong.  “It will also serve as a good preparation for our participation in the 17th Asian Games this year in Incheon, Korea.”

Ang Pilipinas ang palagiang ikinukunsidera bilang contenders sa mga international competitions.

Noong 2012 World University tourney sa Pocheon, Korea, kumuha si Mary Anjelay Pelaez ng silver medal sa sparring, habang nag-uwi naman sina Leanarda Landrito at Patricia Mae Sembrano ng dalawang bronzes sa poomsae.
