Jumamoy trey lifts NU over UST

MANILA, Philippines — Reinhard Jumamoy saved National University from a potential collapse, sinking a game-winning three-pointer against the University of Santo Tomas in overtime to secure an 87-85 victory in the UAAP Season 89 Collegiate Men’s Basketball Tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum yesterday.

NU has now won two straight games to improve to 4-2 ahead of its first-round finale against Far Eastern U. On the other hand, UST dropped two consecutive games to fall to 2-3.

The Bulldogs had a chance to close out the game in regulation but squandered a nine-point lead, 77-68, with 2:09 remaining in the fourth quarter.

With Mark Llemit closely guarding him, Jumamoy stepped back before launching a deep triple off the glass for the win with just 0.5 remaining.

On the Growling Tigers’ final attempt, the ball went to Amiel Acido at the top of the key, but his three-pointer was swatted away by Mo Diassana.

In the night cap, Far Eastern University overpowered a Louie Alas-less Ateneo, 93-70, to claim its fourth straight win and remain on top.
